GOOD NEWS: Memorial Ceremony

The Odessa Police Department Honor Guard attended the 2019 Texas Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony which was recently held in Austin. During the service, Governor Abbott presented medals to the families of the fallen officers from Texas. The OPD Honor Guard will soon head to Washington D.C. for National Police Week, which took place May 12-18. This week is set aside to recognize the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement that have been killed in the line of duty. The public is encouraged to replace their porch lights with blue bulbs during National Police Week. Members of OPD, Midland Police Department, Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Midland County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Lubbock Police Department and other local agencies held a memorial service to honor fellow officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The service begins at 10 a.m. May 17 at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 6801 E. Highway 80. OPD conducted a brief memorial service for all of the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty the past year in Texas.
