Thanks to the generosity of 1,425 Red Raiders from 35 states, more than $430,000 was raised during the second annual Texas Tech University Day of Giving. This surpassed the fundraising goal by more than $130,000.
Over 1,923 minutes on Aug. 15-16, every dollar raised across the university counted toward Day of Giving, including funds raised for highlighted projects from all 13 of Texas Tech’s colleges and other areas such as the Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center, the Burkhart Center for Autism Education & Research, Texas Tech University Libraries and the Texas Tech Spirit Program.
While there were 24 featured projects on Day of Giving, donors’ generosity extended to all areas of the university. This included gifts from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends of the university to a variety of funds supporting students, research, community projects and athletics.
“Our donors and the Red Raider family continually step up to support meaningful programs at Texas Tech,” Byron Kennedy, vice president for university advancement, said in a news release. “The impact of their generosity can be seen across campus and throughout our community. We are continually grateful for their support.”
Texas Tech Day of Giving has traditionally been held in early August. However, starting in 2024, Day of Giving will take place during the spring semester to provide greater opportunity for students, faculty and staff to attend on-campus events celebrating philanthropy at the university.
“We look forward to continuing this new Texas Tech tradition in bigger and better ways as we move forward,” said Shannon Wallace, associate director for annual giving, in the release. “As Day of Giving grows, so does our impact on students, this campus and the community. Truly every dollar makes a difference, and I can’t wait to see how the growth of this tradition continues to create lasting change at Texas Tech.”
