The Young Women’s Preparatory Network (YWPN) in Dallas hosted 64 students from its network of public, all-girls schools Feb. 24 for the final judging in the 2024 YWPN STEAM Challenge. In the Challenge, teams of up to four girls in middle and high school categories built a project that had to solve a problem in the world that they believe will affect the next generation.

A team from Young Women’s Leadership Academy in Midland was the first-place winner in the high school category for their project that aims to harness an untapped energy source while simultaneously reducing oncoming traffic fatalities and ensuring the safety of drivers.
