Midland Habitat for Humanity (MHFH) dedicated its 194th house, located in the 400 block of Lindy Ave., to a deserving homeowner Nov. 30.

Funding for the home was made available by the JC Ferguson Foundation and MHFH. The lot was made available for purchase by the Ector County Independent School District to MHFH at cost.

“We are thrilled to have celebrated our third home dedication in Odessa this year! The growth of our program in Odessa is extremely important to us. We are truly grateful to have exceptional community partners like ECISD, the City of Odessa and the JC Ferguson Foundation,” Joey Hopkins, MHFH executive director, said in a news release.

MHFH is one of the premier institutions responsible for constructing affordable housing in the Permian Basin. The organization’s partnership model offers deserving, hard-working families a hand-up. MHFH uses a rigorous qualifying process that includes progress from the application through homeownership. Each participant contributes a minimum of 350 hours of “sweat equity” on the worksite and completes a homeownership education program. Successful candidates are then awarded a 0% interest mortgage, making homeownership a reality for some of the most deserving families in the Permian Basin.
