MCHS Foundation, Children’s Miracle Network provide funds to send perinatal social worker to national conference

The Medical Center Health System Foundation Board has approved the funding for an MCH Certified Perinatal Social Worker to attend the National Association of Perinatal Social Workers Conference in Seattle, Washington. The total cost approved for the conference is $1,940.

Janett Franco has been a Certified Perinatal Social Worker with the MCH Center for Women and Infants for five years. She assesses and assists in an array of situations individual to patients and families. She is consulted when stressors, risk factors or concerns are presented to include but not limited to NICU admissions, domestic abuse, inability to provide basic needs for the infant, safety concerns to the welfare of patients, and assists in identifying risk factors associated with postpartum mental health. By attending this National Association of Perinatal Social Work Conference, she will be able to bring back up to date information on practices, skills, and resources available to better serve this population when they come to Medical Center Health System.

“Thanks to the generosity and dedication of Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) I will have the opportunity to attend this year’s Perinatal Social Work Conference,” Franco said in a news release. “It is with great hope that this conference will allow the opportunity to strengthen the children in our community and starting at the time a baby is born. I am hopeful to gain new insight, information, and access to resources to help our perinatal community despite individualized challenges that this period may bring to everyone involved.”
