MIDLAND On Thursday, April 20, Midland College collaborated with 26 industry partners to secure jobs for May graduates and to develop a network for the Permian Basin’s workforce. The event was coordinated by Erick Gutierrez, MC Diesel Technology program chair, and Pete Avalos, MC Energy, Auto and Collision Repair program chair.

“We work hard to build lasting relationships with our industry partners, not only to build successful programs, but also to ensure that our students have a place to secure employment after they graduate,” Gutierrez said in a news release.

During the Permian Basin industry career/intern fair event, Midland College alumni and soon-to-be graduates had the opportunity to speak with and distribute resumes to both recruiters and industry professionals.

“I was extremely impressed with the level of professionalism and engagement that the students possessed,” Samuel Gonzalez, local recruiter with Stewart and Stevenson, said.

“We worked with our students to build resumes and even held mock interviews with them so that they could gain experience and confidence before meeting with industry representatives,” Avalos explained. “These students are our main priority, so it is our duty that each young man and woman in our technical programs is successful before, during and after they graduate from Midland College.”
