NEW VICE PRESIDENT

Whitley Penn Audit Partner, Catherine Speer, began her role as vice president of the Texas Society of CPAs Permian Basin Chapter (TXCPA Permian Basin) on June 1.

“It is an honor to serve the Permian Basin chapter of TXCPA as this year’s vice president. My goal is to provide valuable experiences for our members as we build our networks and develop lasting relationships within the business community,” Speer stated.

Speer assumes this role immediately following Whitley Penn Tax Senior Manager Kate Devey, who served as Chapter Vice President for the 2020-2021 term.

TXCPA Permian Basin held its first organizational meeting in May of 1949. The Chapter now serves more than 500 members through 21 counties throughout West Texas.

With various committees and events, there are plenty of volunteer activities and opportunities for service and networking. The Chapter is focused on empowering members in the Permian Basin to lead and succeed.

Speer has 15 years of experience advising clients with audit and accounting in the energy, manufacturing and construction industries, as well as governmental and nonprofit organizations.

Speer has served on the University of Texas Permian Basin Internal Audit Committee and has sat on the Board of the Permian Basin Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Speer earned her B.A. and M.S. in Accounting from Texas Tech University, magna cum laude.
