GOOD NEWS: Fallen Hero Tribute

The Odessa Police Department conducted a wreath-laying ceremony to pay tribute to Officer Scott Stanton Smith at sunrise on Monday.

Back in 1987, the 25-year-old officer was responding to a burglary call when he was involved in a motorcycle accident. Two days after the accident, his wife found out she was pregnant with their second child. He spent six months on life support before passing away in 1988.

The wreath was displayed at OPD’s Memorial Statue til the Honor Guard took it down at sundown. Smith’s end of watch Feb. 6, 1988.
