Max Marquez, 15 and Abel Marquez, 13, competed in The Texas Open National Martial Arts Championships on Jan. 15 in Tyler. Each won first place in their respective age group for Black Belt Traditional Weapon category using a whip chain. Max and Abel are the sons of Pete and Rachel Marquez of Jefferson, formally of Odessa.
