BSA honors local community leaders

The Buffalo Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) presented the Silver Beaver Award to three outstanding local community leaders at the BSA Annual Meeting of the Council.

“The recipients of the Silver Beaver Award personify the values of Scouting” Nathan Kramer, CEO of the Buffalo Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America, said.

The three award recipients of the Silver Beaver Award were Pat Long Weaver, Betty and Don Tomlin.

The mission of the BSA is to prepare young people over their lifetimes, to make moral and ethical decisions. The adult leaders of the BSA Buffalo Trail Council are committed to changing lives through Scouting for the youth of West Texas Pat Long Weaver, a local attorney, has worked with the BSA for over twenty years as a volunteer, board member and presently serves as pro bono counsel.

“I appreciate all the board is doing for the council” Long Weaver said, they are an amazing group. They are tirelessly working to make a positive impact on our youth.”

Another longtime supporter of the Scouts is Don Tomlin, owner of Big D Companies headquartered in Midland. Don and his wife Betty were presented with the prestigious Silver Beaver Awards at the council recognition banquet. “We truly believe Scouting is among the greatest youth program for preparing young people for a lifetime of leadership, service and citizenship,” Tomlin explained.

The Silver Beaver Award was introduced in 1931 and is the highest Council-level distinguished service award of the BSA. Upon nomination by their local Scout Council and with approval from the BSA National Court of Honor, recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council.
