UTPB to stage ‘The Wolves’

UTPB Theatre is performing Sarah DeLappe’s “The Wolves,” Jan. 12-14 at the CEED Auditorium, 1310 North FM 1788, Midland.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Jan. 12 and Jan. 13 and 2 p.m. Jan. 14.

The play chronicles several practices of a girls’ soccer team, allowing the audience to eavesdrop on conversations about politics, women’s health, relationships, and love.

Rather than using a traditional stage format, UTPB’s production takes advantage of the sports metaphor, situating the audience around an Astroturf stage on which the actors complete soccer drills. The production is truly a community collaboration featuring a cast of traditional college students, local high school theatre students, and community members.

While “The Wolves” wonderfully highlights the complexity and intimacy of team and feminine dynamics, the play does contain adult themes and language. Parental discretion is advised.
