Mother charged with endangering child

The mother of a newborn child who tested positive for the presence of narcotics was charged with endangering a child Thursday by the Odessa Police Department.

OPD was notified by the Department of Family and Protective Services on Jan. 10 that a newborn child had tested positive for narcotics, and upon further investigation, it was revealed that the child’s mother, 23-year-old Tawni Gutierrez, and her child, born Dec. 22, 2017, had tested positive for amphetamines and cannabinoids, according to an OPD news release.

Police charged Gutierrez with endangering a child, a state jail felony.

Jail records show Gutierrez was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Thursday and released Friday on a $15,000 bond.
