UT Permian Basin alumnus, Rafael Sanchez graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 2019.
He said because of UTPB he has worked for two reputable companies since graduating, Ameredev as an Operations Engineer and currently, Pinon Midstream as a Lead Operator.
“UTPB’s College of Engineering helped me get my foot in the door as a professional by providing networking opportunities through internships, research programs, and engineering organizations,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez explained that being an engineer is more than just a job position.
“To me, an engineer is someone who helps their organization solve problems, improve efficiency, and reduce costs all while moving forward with integrity.”
Sanchez shares some insight into the world of engineering he said he wishes he would have known as a student.
“Technical knowledge, networking, and grades are all critical for landing that first job post-graduation, but soft skills are also key in having a successful career. You will work with all kinds of people in any industry, so learn how to talk to people, listen, and always be willing to learn.”
