IDEA Public Schools in the Permian Basin on Wednesday welcomed nearly 1,800 students for the 2022–23 school year at both campuses, IDEA Yukon in Odessa and IDEA Travis in Midland.

This year, IDEA Yukon, serving more than 700 students, is adding an additional grade level, seventh. Middle school students at IDEA Yukon will also be able to participate in competitive sports this year as the school joins a local non-UIL school league. Students in sixth and seventh grade will also be able to take part in Project Lead the Way, which incorporates science, technology, engineering, and math. Students will also have opportunities to explore real world STEM challenges and practice creative problem solving, a news release said.

IDEA Travis will offer eighth grade for the first time this year and serve roughly 1,100 students. Students in grades 3rd through 8th will have the opportunity to participate in intramural sports. Additionally, Travis students living within Midland ISD’s boundaries can also try out to play competitive sports at their home attendance zone junior high school, the release said.

“We are so excited to continue growing our campuses to serve our students,” Bethany Solis, Executive Director for IDEA Public Schools in the Permian Basin, said in the release. “We are committed to providing a safe, rigorous, and fun learning environment where students thrive on the road to and through college.”
