Woman arrested on accusations of forgery

Tipsters led Odessa authorities Friday to arrest a woman suspected of bilking an Albertson’s market and a Kwik Kash location of more than $2,000 in January.
Lori Allen Vanleer, 44, who also goes by the alias of Lori Ellen Mast, was arrested in Midland on three warrants, each accusing her of forgery, a state jail felony. One of the warrants was out of Midland and two other warrants were from Odessa.
Tipsters called the Odessa Crime Stoppers with information that helped authorities nab the woman who is suspected of defrauding the two businesses in Odessa with counterfeit checks. The crimes for which Vanleer is accused of committing occurred Jan. 28 and Jan. 31.
The Odessa Police Department initially reported that the crimes both happened at the Kwik Kash location. Vanleer’s booking information was not immediately available.
Operators of the Kwik Kash, 2804 Andrews Highway, reported Jan. 28 a customer they identified as Vanleer passed a counterfeit check to an employee for $1,450.47, a probable cause affidavit said.
The check was written on a Compass Bank Houston account in the name of “PRM dba Corpsol VII” and was dated Jan. 26. The check was made payable to Lori Ellen Vanleer, and was confirmed to be counterfeit, the affidavit reported.
The second time a fake check report was made involved Albertson’s Market Street, 4950 E. 42nd St. The market’s operators reported that Vanleer passed a counterfeit check to a market employee in the amount of $587.87, the probable cause affidavit read.
The fraudulent check that was dated Jan. 31 used the same information as the check used at the Kwik Kash location. At both businesses video surveillance captured images of the suspect who was later identified as Vanleer, the affidavit read.
The combined total Vanleer is accused of defrauding from both Odessa businesses is $2,038.34.
