Woman accused of hitting nephew, 9, with belt

An Odessa woman was arrested Thursday on charges that she beat her 9-year-old nephew with a belt for playing with his Lego toys when he was grounded.
Danika Dlorin Detlaff, 32, was arrested on a warrant accusing her of injury to a child, a third-degree felony. Odessa Police Department officers were alerted Wednesday by local elementary school staff that the boy had numerous bruises “on or about his body,” a probable cause affidavit reported.
The boy told OPD officers that he got in trouble in school the day before and when his aunt, identified as Detlaff, found out she grounded him and told him to go to his room. The boy said Detlaff entered his room twice and found him playing with his Lego toys, “which angered her.”
“(The boy) advised that Danika then struck him with the belt several times on or about his body,” the affidavit read.
The boy sustained bruising to his back area and his arms, and said that after the incident he felt “pain on his back and arms” when he went to bed, the probable cause affidavit read.
Detlaff, 417 E. 48th St., was being held Friday at the Ector County Detention Center on $16,000 bond.
