Vigil set for Saturday in Midland

MIDLAND San Angelo Bishop Michael J. Sis will join with other Midland religious leaders at 7 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 1401 E. Garden Lane in Midland for an interfaith vigil. The vigil is an effort to show support for immigrants.
The shrine is located on the grounds of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Bishop Sis spoke at a similar gathering in San Angelo on Jan. 31. Non-partisan and interfaith in scope, the vigil will also host speakers Billy Ashley, pastor at Midland’s Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, and Harry Nutter, president-elect of Midland Unitarian Universalist Church.
The vigil is an opportunity for people of faith to join together in expressing appreciation for and solidarity with immigrants, according to a release by Alfredo Chaparro, a concerned citizen who helped organize the vigil.
The vigil is expected to conclude about 7:30 p.m.
