United Way Day Giving underway today

The United Ways of both Odessa and Midland are having a Permian Basin “Giving Day” today.
The joint fundraising initiative will be conducted online at the website below. The focus of this effort will be to reach new donors and ultimately help our fellow Permian Basin residents, according to a news release.
As the Basin economy continues to recover from the economic impact of low oil prices, the need for assistance continues to increase. In the Permian Basin areas covered by the assistance of the United Way of Odessa, 72,770 residents have reached out for assistance, an 18 perent increase from 2015.
Despite the United Way of Odessa allocating $1,485,000 to 23 local nonprofit agencies such as Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, the Red Cross, etc., the increasing need for assistance remains viable and consistent, according to the release. Ninety-eight percent of the monies raised in the Basin remain in the area to help residents.
