Sheriff’s office seizes 1,600 pounds of marijuana

One person was arrested and charged with possession of close to 1,600 pounds of marijuana Thursday evening.
Ector County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, with the assistance of ICE, Border Patrol and Texas DPS officers conducted a traffic stop on an older model Chevrolet utility truck about 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the 104 mile marker on I-20 in Ector County.
A computer check showed four outstanding warrants for the driver out of Ector County. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 35-year-old Hugo Cesar Hernandez, a resident of Ector County.
Several large bundles wrapped in plastic were seen behind the driver’s seat. Further search revealed the vehicle was hauling 1,599.75 pounds of marijuana. The estimated street value on the marijuana seizure is $1,279,000.
Hernandez was arrested and taken into federal custody.
