Sharing sweet sounds of musicCassatt residency starts soon

The New York based Cassatt String Quartet – Muneko Otani, violin, Jennifer Leshnower, violin, Ah Ling Neu, viola and Elizabeth Anderson, cello – will perform its 11th annual residency, Cassatt in the Basin!, Jan. 29 through Feb. 4.
Residencies aim to give Basin area students the opportunity to study with artist teachers, to develop both chamber music and orchestra skills, to develop chamber music audiences of the future, and specifically focus on daily chamber music coachings, as well as lecture demonstrations.
This Cassatt in the Basin! residency features Dan Welcher’s Lone Star Sinfonietta, a triple-string quartet for the Cassatts and students. Welcher is one of the well-known composers of his generation and is on the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin.
A schedule follows:
Feb. 1: Outreach concerts: 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., Parks Senior Living, 111 Parks Village Drive, Odessa, assisted care unit; 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., The Parks Plaza, 301 Parks Village Drive, Odessa, independent living.
The Cassatts will play excerpts of Beethoven’s String Quartet, Op. 132. It is free and open to the public.
Feb. 2: Open rehearsal, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Patrons of the Gallery of the Ellen Noel Art Museum, 4090 E. University Blvd. Dan Welcher’s Lone Star Sinfonietta (triple string quartet with Cassatts and students). Free and open to the public.
Feb. 4: Final concert, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Bonham Middle School, 2201 E. 21st St., dress rehearsal. Noon – Dan Welcher’s Lone Star Sinfonietta (triple string quartet with Cassatts and students). Also, the Cassatts play excerpts of Beethoven’s String Quartet, Op. 132. It is free and open to the public.
