Several displaced after apartment fire

Several Briarwood Village Apartment residents were displaced tonight after one second story unit caught fire.
Odessa Fire Rescue responded to the apartment complex at approximately 3:32 p.m. today after a report of a structure fire at 3926 Englewood Circle. City of Odessa Public Information Officer Andrea Goodson said when it was called into dispatch, the fire reportedly started in the kitchen.
“It’s too early to determine how it started. Once the oxygen levels are back up to a safe level our investigators will be able to enter to start their investigation,” Goodson said. “It could be anything.”
Approximately 30 personnel responded to the fire, which did not result in any injuries.
“The building on the east side suffered heavy damage, one unit in particular, but there’s smoke and water throughout the rest of the building. It’s probably uninhabitable at this time,” Goodson said, adding that the American Red Cross was on scene to assist anyone who needed it.
It was estimated approximately 12 apartment units were affected by the fire.
“I don’t know how many occupants were in each unit,” Goodson said.
Several streets were closed off as crews worked to extinguish the fire, which took less than an hour.
