OPD investigating call of ailing boy, 8

The Odessa Police Department is investigating Monday’s medical aid call about an 8-year-old boy who reportedly became violently sick at a Grandview Avenue pizza restaurant.
The boy was playing with friends at Mr. Gatti’s Odessa Pizza Parlor, 2750 N. Grandview Ave., when he became ill. Dispatchers received a 911 call at 7:10 p.m. Monday and sent paramedics to the location to check.
The boy whose name was not released was first sent to Neighbor’s Emergency Room and then sent to Medical Center Hospital, where his condition was not disclosed, Odessa police spokesman Cpl. Steve LeSueur said.
LeSueur said that at this time the OPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident as a medical aid call but was at pains to explain why the police stepped in.
When asked if the police investigation was triggered by claims that synthetic drugs may have been involved in making the boy sick, LeSueur said the claims have not been confirmed.
Tom Miller, director of operations for the restaurant, issued a statement that no comment will be offered until more is known about what happened to CBS 7 News.
“Until we know more we will not say anything,” Miller said in the statement. “There’s absolutely no indication that anything happened.”
Anyone with information about the incident can call OPD Detective Kara Thompson at 432-335-4931 or the Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-8477.
