Odessans encouraged to help ‘Rainbow Room’

Odessans wanting to help children involved with Child Protective Services can do so Thursday by bringing a new package of undergarments, dental hygiene products and other items to the Chick-fil-A restaurant on 42nd Street.
The effort is aimed at benefiting the Rainbow Room, a room within the CPS office at 2525 Grandview Ave., where children who’ve been removed from their homes can pick up clothing, toothpaste and other hygienic products, said Sara Yarbrough, who is the Rainbow Room coordinator.
“If you bring an item, you’ll receive a free coupon for a chicken sandwich,” Yarbrough said.
The community event is from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will take place at the Chick-fil-A eatery near the intersection of 42nd Street and Grandview Avenue. The Rainbow Room has been around since 1997 and is a nonprofit that relies solely on donations and does not receive funding from neither the county nor the state, Yarbrough said.
