Odessan arrested on charges of assault

An Odessa woman was arrested this week on accusations that she reportedly punched out her roommate during a fight over bringing in cocaine to their apartment and held a knife to his throat.
Tawni Marie Gutierrez, 22, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging her with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, following the incident Odessa Police Department police investigated in January.
Gutierrez, 3637 Bonham Ave., was released Wednesday from the Ector County Detention Center on $25,000 bond.
On Jan. 15 officers were dispatched to the 800 block of East Fourth Street where they met up with the suspected victim, identified as 25-year-old Charles Boyd, who told them he got into a fight with Gutierrez, his roommate of four months, a probable cause affidavit reported.
The fight was over cocaine Gutierrez reportedly brought into their home, which led her to reportedly punch Boyd in the face and throw a beer bottle at him. Boyd told officers that Gutierrez grabbed a knife from the kitchen and held it to his throat before he managed to overpower her and get away, the affidavit read.
An Odessa Police Department detective interviewed Boyd, who gave him a similar story and had seen photos taken by officers at the scene which showed scratches and bruising to Boyd’s neck. A silver knife with a black handle was identified as the one Boyd accused Gutierrez of using.
