NPSL SOCCER: Short-handed Sockers hold off Diablos

DENTON Sockers FC picked up three key points Saturday night. defeating the Denton Diablos 2-1 in NPSL play at the Mean Green Soccer Complex.

The Sockers (7-1-2, 23 points) avenged a 4-0 loss to Denton June 13 in Midland and moved into sole possession of second place in the Lone Star Conference Division with two matches remaining.

The Sockers got on the board in the 23rd minute when Eduardo Bonatto headed in a goal off an assist from Erwin Regules. They got another goal in the 32nd minute when Trevor Amman scored off a Luis Aranda assist.

Denton (8-3-0, 24 points) was able to get a goal late in the half but was unable to find the equalizer.

Sockers FC managed to hold on despite being a man down the entire second half after Aranda was given a red card in the 45th minute.

The Sockers return home on Thursday to face the Laredo Heat in one of the final two matches of the season.
