Noted authors to speak at Sewell Leadership Event

Two noted speakers are expected to inform and inspire their audiences Thursday during the Sewell Leadership Event at the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center.
Noted author and motivational speaker John Maxwell and pastor and author Andy Stanley are the keynote speakers scheduled to appear for the daylong event from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Sewell Leadership Event has been an annual event in West Texas since 2006.
Maxwell said he was looking forward to encourage Odessans to go beyond the parameters of whatever limitations life sets in front of them. Cole Wardell, spokesman and director at Sewell Family of Companies, said. He added that the community was looking forward to seeing Maxwell speak.
“John Maxwell has been a good friend of Collin Sewell,” Wardell said. “We’re happy to have him back this year.”
“I’m excited to teach on the subject of capacity. We often treat the word capacity as if it were a natural law of limitation. Unfortunately, most of us are much more comfortable defining what we perceive off limits rather than what’s possible,” Maxwell said in a statement.
“I believe you can increase your capacity, be more productive, and unleash your potential by identifying the greatest capacities, maximizing them today, growing them for tomorrow, and compounding them every day to multiply your impact,” Maxwell said.
Maxwell speaks on leadership and is credited for having sold more than 21 million books. Maxwell founded EQUIP, a nonprofit organization that specializes in training Christian leaders, and the John Maxwell Company. Five million leaders in 174 countries are believed to have been trained by Maxwell’s companies, his spokespeople said. Maxwell annually gives speeches to Fortune 100 companies, international leaders and to such groups as the National Football League and the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Stanley is a pastor, author and founder of the Atlanta-based North Point Ministries in 1995, which is made up of six churches in Atlanta and a network of about 30 churches throughout the world. Stanley’s spokespeople estimates that he reaches a total of about 70,000 people weekly. Stanley authored such books as “Ask It, How to be Rich” and “Enemies of the Heart: Breaking Free from the Four Emotions that Control You.”
