No Dairy Queen lands teen in jailOdessan arrested on charges of assaulting grandfather

A 17-year-old Odessan was arrested this week on suspicion of throwing a kitchen knife at his grandfather because he wouldn’t take him to Dairy Queen.
Bryan Calanche was arrested at about 8:14 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony, in connection with the incident that occurred at a home in the 1300 block of South Sam Houston Avenue.
Calanche, 1337 S. Sam Houston Ave., was being held Wednesday at the Ector County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
Dispatchers sent Odessa police officers to the Sam Houston Avenue location on domestic disturbance call. Officers met a 61-year-old man and his grandson, identified as Calanche, the Odessa Police Department reported.
Officers learned that Calanche reportedly got so upset with his grandfather for not taking him to the Dairy Queen restaurant that he tried to kick his grandfather but missed, and then threw the knife at him and missed again, the OPD said.
