MEN’S COLLEGE TENNIS: UTPB clinches first NCAA Tournament spot in program history

The UTPB men’s tennis team accomplished a program first Tuesday night by earning an at-large spot in the NCAA Divison II Men’s Tennis Championship.

The Falcons (12-9) earned the No. 4 seed in the South Central Regional and will face top-seeded Midwestern State in the first round Sunday at 2 p.m. in Wichita Falls.

It will be the second time in the last 10 days the teams have faced off against each other.

The Mustangs defeated the Falcons in the two previous meetings this season, 6-1 on April 3 in Odessa and 4-0 on May 3 at the Lone Star Conference Championships in Waco.

The winners of the 16 regionals will advance to the championship round starting May 22 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
