Loud explosion reported in West Odessa, nothing found

Odessa firefighters could not find the location of a reported explosion in West Odessa on Thursday but suspect that what residents heard may have come from the Cemex plant, a fire captain said.
Firefighters went to the corner of 57th Street and Mark Twain Avenue following a report at 1:36 p.m. of a loud explosion heard nearby. But Odessa Fire/Rescue firefighters and other authorities could not locate the incident except for a controlled burn that had nothing to do with the call, Odessa Fire Capt. Martin Moya.
Authorities believed the source of the commotion may have come from a nearby Cemex plant, Moya said. Attempts to reach Cemex representatives for comment were unsuccessful at press time.
