April 8 Odessa police arrested 35-year-old Jason Speight and charged him with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and evading arrest with a prior conviction, both of which are state jail felonies. Officers pulled over a black 2005 Hyundai at the intersection of University Boulevard and Kermit Highway at 1:09 a.m. April 8. The front passenger opened his door and immediately began running on foot. Police eventually caught the man, identified as Speight, and found him to be in possession of a bag of cocaine. Speight, 2714 Santa Monica Ave., was released April 8 from the Ector County Detention Center on $7,000 bond.
