James Cothern

March 23 Odessa police arrested 27-year-old James Cothern and charged him with possession of a controlled substance (heroin), a state jail felony; and for five counts of possession of a dangerous drug, all of which are class A misdemeanors; and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), a class B misdemeanor. Officers pulled over a blue Hyundai Accent at 56th Street and Everglade Avenue at 3:07 a.m. March 23. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Cothern. Police found Cothern to be in possession of a marijuana pipe. Officers then searched the vehicle and found Cothern to be in possession of gabapentin (D 02 and D 03), lamotrigine, ciprofloxacin and trazodone hydrochloride. A further search found Cothern to be in possession of marijuana and multiple syringes containing heroin inside of his sock. Cothern, 6307 Fort Worth Ave., was being held March 27 at the Ector County Detention Center on $40,500 bond.
