Diabetes classes to begin

The Odessa Regional Medical Center has scheduled the following Foundation of Diabetes Management classes at Foundation of Diabetes Management, 420 E. Sixth St., Suite 204.

Today: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

May 3: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This is a four-week course, meeting once a week for 2 hours each time.

Select the date that fits into your schedule best.

The Foundation of Diabetes Management class is designed to give Type I, Type II, and pre-diabetic individuals the tools they need to manage their disease with knowledge and confidence. This class is geared towards the newly diagnosed diabetic as well as the seasoned diabetic who is looking for support in controlling their blood sugar levels.

The Community Health Center at ORMC is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Classes are free.

Prepared childbirth class

Odessa Regional Medical Center, 520 E. Sixth St., has scheduled prepared childbirth classes at 7 p.m. today, June 4 and July 23.

The class covers a variety of information including: labor, delivery, cesarean section, anesthesia options, relaxation techniques, breast and bottle feeding, newborn appearance and procedures.

Only expectant mothers should register for class before their 24th week (sixth month) of pregnancy to ensure a space.

Fee includes mother-to-be and one person (coach) to attend all five classes. Enroll online.

Harnesses the power of women to fight heart disease and stroke

The American Heart Association has scheduled its annual Go Red for Women Luncheon to raise funds for cardiovascular disease and stroke research, awareness and education on 11:30 a.m. May 2 at the Odessa Country Club, 1 Fairway Drive.

This year’s luncheon will feature Donna Hartley as the keynote speaker. Hartley is an international, inspirational speaker, a member of the National Speakers Association and the owner of Hartley International. She has been featured on PBS, NBC, ABC and in the New York Times.

The luncheon aims to empower women to take charge of their heart health and fight cardiovascular diseases, which claim more women’s lives than all forms of cancer combined.

The Go Red For Women Luncheon will include a silent auction, a delicious and heart-healthy lunch; and more.

Individual tickets are $50, with corporate or group tables still available. The Go Red For Women luncheon is sponsored nationally by Macy’s and CVS Health.

New baby care classes

Odessa Regional Medical Center, 520 E. Sixth St., has scheduled new baby care classes at 7 p.m. May 22, July 9 and Aug. 27 at the East Campus Auditorium.

This class provides information for expectant or new parents on basic infant care and helps increase parents’ knowledge and self-confidence as they prepare for the addition of a new member to their family.

Kits include a checklist of important contact names and information, a medication tracker, allergies/conditions worksheet, a senior health tracker magnet, a wallet card to carry when away from home and more. Home Instead Senior Care and the Arthritis Foundation have joined and produced a series to help those who care for seniors with arthritis. Home Instead Senior Care is also offering free training for families caring for Alzheimer’s and other dementias family members.
