Jan. 1 Odessa police arrested 44-year-old Fernando Navarrette and charged him with driving while intoxicated, third or more, a third-degree felony. Officers pulled over a tan 1998 Toyota Corolla, driven by Navarrette, at 7:34 p.m. Jan. 1 at 17th Street and Adams Avenue. Police made contact with Navarrette and could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Navarrette failed field sobriety tests. Investigation revealed Navarrette had two previous convictions for driving while intoxicated. Navarrette, 300 Penwell Ave., was being held Jan. 5 at the Ector County Detention Center on $15,000 bond.
