Jan. 25 Odessa police arrested 23-year-old Ernie Enriquez Jr. and charged him with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a third-degree felony; and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), a class B misdemeanor. Officers pulled over a silver 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt in the 300 block of Sunset Boulevard at 2:38 p.m. Jan. 25. The front passenger of the vehicle was identified as Enriquez. Police could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Enriquez initially refused to open his door for officers, and when he did exit the vehicle a black handgun fell out of his pants. Police searched Enriquez and the vehicle and found marijuana in his pants pocket and inside of the center console. Investigation revealed Enriquez had a prior felony conviction for robbery out of El Paso. Enriquez, address unknown, was being held Jan. 31 at the Ector County Detention Center on $25,500 bond.
