The Ector County Independent School District Innovation Department recognized a special group of students for their valuable micro fossil contributions to SharkFinder® Citizen Science. SharkFinder was implemented through PICK Education in 15 schools and more than 3,500 students contributed more than 1,500 samples to elasmobranch (shark, skate and ray) research. Two hundred twenty certificates of accomplishment were awarded to students from Noel, Blanton, LBJ, Jordan, Cavazos, Gonzales and Lamar for their discoveries. The specimens will be curated at Southern Methodist University and these student contributions will continue to provide important scientific data to researchers for years to come. Students will have the opportunity to be published for any scientifically significant findings.
