COLLEGE SOFTBALL: UTPB comes up short against Texas A&M-Kingsville

The UTPB softball team couldn’t hang on to its early lead as the Falcons fell to the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas in a 2-1 loss Friday night at UTPB Field in a Lone Star Conference game.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a run by Abby Hernandez, but UTPB (10-37 overall, 3-25 in conference) could only hold off the Javelinas for so long. Texas A&M-Kingsville (39-8, 22-6) took the lead in the top of the fourth when Roxy Chapa hit a two-run homer to center field for what was ultimately the difference-maker.
Breanna Smith was the winning pitcher for Texas A&M-Kingsville while Cindy Juarez took the loss for the Falcons.
The teams will finish their three-game series at 1 p.m. Saturday with a doubleheader at UTPB Field.
