Church outfits trailer for disaster reliefMission Dorado Baptist Church sets weekend events

Working with the Grapevine-based Southern Baptists of Texas Convention Disaster Relief Mission, Mission Dorado Baptist Church is outfitting a trailer for its team of volunteers to use in Texas and other states.
The Rev. Jared Wellman will preach about helping the unfortunate at 11 a.m. Feb. 26, after which, weather permitting, a cookout will be held in the 4142 Faudree Rd. church’s parking lot and the donation of tools will be asked.
Wellman said representatives of Home Depot and Lowe’s will be there with tools to sell and that supporters may donate tools of their own.
“Our goal is to make sure we’re fulfilling all the things that Jesus expects of us when it comes to reaching out,” he said. “We realized that there was a gap.”
Wellman said church members Bill Rea and Linda Parker have worked in disaster relief with the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, which has donated a white covered trailer to Mission Dorado, and that Rea and Parker will direct efforts involving such untoward events as floods and tornadoes.
He said the trailer will be marked with decals telling where it is from and what it’s being used for.
“We’ll be able to send a team of trained people to those areas with the tools to plug into this ministry,” Wellman said, adding that a training session for volunteers will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 25 in the church parking lot.
“We have a list of the things we need.”
He said SBTC officials will perform the training.
