TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: RoughRiders rough up RockHounds

MIDLAND The Frisco RoughRiders got the bats going early to take a 13-2 victory against the Midland RockHounds in the opener of a Texas League series at Security Bank Ballpark.

Frisco’s Andretty Cordero drove in five runs and Franklin Rollin hit a three-run homer, while Emerson Martinez pitched seven solid innings. The RoughRiders extended their lead over Midland in the South Division standings to 1½ games.

Rollin, who went 2 for 5, connected off RockHounds starter James Naile (3-3) in the second inning as Frisco went up 4-0. Cordero, who was also 2 for 5, doubled in two runs in the fifth and made it 11-1 in the sixth with a bases-loaded double.

Martinez (2-1) allowed a run on six hits. He struck out five.

Midland’s Jonah Heim was 3 for 3 with an RBI and Greg Deichmann was 2 for 4 with a double.

The series continues at 7 p.m. Friday.
