TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: RockHounds rally past Hooks to split series

MIDLAND Luis Barrera singled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning Sunday as the Midland RockHounds rallied to beat Corpus Christi 4-3 in the finale of their Texas League series at Security Bank Ballpark.

The teams split the four-game series to finish the weekend tied for second in the South Division.

Midland scored three runs in the seventh to overcome a 3-1 deficit. Kevin Merrell tied the game with a two-run double.

Chase Calabuig singled in a run in the first to give the RockHounds the early lead, but Corpus Christi went in front in the second on Granden Goetzman’s home run and Joshua Rojas’ RBI single. Seth Beer singled in a run in the fifth to extend the Hooks’ lead.

Zack Erwin (2-2) got the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. John Gorman worked around two hits in the ninth for his second save.

Justin Ferrell (0-2) recorded just two outs in taking the loss. He was charged with three runs on one hit with two walks.

Midland opens a seven-game road trip Monday night at Frisco.
