TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: RockHounds pound RoughRiders for second night in a row

FRISCO The Midland RockHounds enjoyed another explosive night on offense Saturday, hitting three home runs for the second game in a row on the way to a 15-2 victory against the Frisco RoughRiders in Texas League action at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

It was the RockHounds’ seventh consecutive victory against the RoughRiders and pushed Midland’s lead in the South Division to two games over Corpus Christi.

After pulling away late in Friday’s victory against Frisco, the RockHounds got started early Saturday. Midland put together a five-run second inning to chase Frisco starter Tyler Phillips (1-6), then added four runs in the third off reliever Yoel Espinal.

The outburst gave Midland 17 runs over a six-inning stretch against the RoughRiders.

Chase Calabuig, Collin Theroux and Edwin Diaz all homered for the RockHounds. Dairon Blanco (3 for 4) and Tyler Ramirez (3 for 6) each had three hits and joined Diaz with three RBIs. Theroux and Brallan Perez, who doubled, each drove in two runs.

Every player in the Midland lineup had at least one hit. Taylor Motter was 2 for 4 and Nate Mondou was 2 for 5.

Matt Milburn (5-4) was the beneficiary of the run support, pitching seven strong innings for the win. He struck out seven while holding Frisco to one earned run on five hits.

Midland clinched the four-game series heading in to the finale at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, which will be the last meeting between the teams in the regular season after they played 23 times in the first half.
