TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: RockHounds drop series finale, stay tied for division lead

MIDLAND Arkansas’ Evan White hit a tie-breaking home run in the eighth inning Sunday as the Travelers pulled away for a 5-1 victory against the Midland RockHounds in the finale of their Texas League series at Security Bank Ballpark.
Despite the loss, Midland remained tied for first place in the South Division with Corpus Christi heading into the All-Star break. The RockHounds resume league games Thursday at Frisco.
Justus Sheffield (1-0) struck out nine while holding the RockHounds to a run on eight hits over seven innings for the win.
Kyle Lewis went 3 for 4 for the Travelers, who took three of four in the series to remain tied for the North Division lead, while Donnie Walton, Jordan Cowan and Mike Ahmed each had two hits.
Mikey White went 2 for 4 and Brallan Perez was 2 for 3 to lead the RockHounds.
Walton singled in the game’s first run in the fifth, but Midland pulled even in the sixth when Dairon Blanco tripled and scored on Tyler Ramirez’s groundout.
Evan White connected for his ninth home run, a two-run shot off Angel Duno (2-3) to put the Travelers in front to stay. Joseph Odom added an RBI single in the eighth and Lewis doubled in a run in the ninth.
