TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: RockHounds down Naturals in ninth

SPRINGDALE, Ark. Chase Calabuig’s two run single in the ninth inning lifted the Midland RockHounds to a 5-3 victory against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Sunday at Arvest Ballpark.

Midland’s Kevin Merrell went 2 for 3 with a two-run single that gave the RockHounds a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning. Edwin Diaz was 2 for 4 with a double.

The Naturals took a 2-0 lead in the second, ending Parker Dunshee’s shutout streak at 16 innings, as Blake Perkins walked with the bases loaded and Anderson Miller scored on a wild pitch.

Miller, Gabriel Cancel and Emmanuel Rivera each went 2 for 4 for Northwest Arkansas.

Dunshee struck out six over seven innings, but did not figure in the decision. He allowed two runs on four hits.

Trey McNutt (2-1) got the win, giving up a run on two hits in one inning. Kyle Finnegan worked the ninth for his fifth save.

Rivera singled in a run in the eighth to tie it at 3-3, but the RockHounds got to Naturals reliever Yunior Marte (0-3) in the ninth.

With two outs and none on, Diaz singled and Merrell walked to chase Marte. Franco Terrero then walked Dairon Blanco to load the bases and Calabuig grounded a 3-1 pitch into center field.
