TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: Frisco rallies past Midland

MIDLAND The Frisco RoughRiders used a five-run eighth inning Friday to slip past the Midland RockHounds 8-5 in Texas League action at Security Bank Ballpark.
Alex Kowalczyk and Michael De Leon, who was 3 for 4 with three doubles, each drove in two runs for the RoughRiders, who moved 2½ games ahead of Midland in the South Division. Andretty Cordero and Eliezer Alvarez each went 2 for 4 for Frisco.
Mikey White, who was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, doubled in a run in the first to give Midland an early lead, but Frisco went up 3-1 in the fifth on Tony Sanchez’s RBI double, a wild pitch and De Leon’s run-scoring groundout.
Midland responded with Chase Calabuig’s RBI single in the fifth, Dairon Blanco’s RBI triple and Nate Mondou’s sacrifice fly in the sixth and White’s RBI single in the seventh to take a 5-3 lead.
In the eighth, Frisco’s Charles Leblanc scored on a wild pitch, Kowalczyk singled in two more to put the RoughRiders back in front and capped the rally with a two-run double.
Walker Weickel (3-0) got the win with one inning of relief. Locke St. John retired all six batters he faced for his third save.
Trey McNutt (2-2) was charged with four runs on five hits over 1.2 innings to take the loss.
