TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: Amarillo rallies past Midland

MIDLAND Amarillo rallied from an early deficit Saturday to defeat the Midland RockHounds 6-4 in the second game of their Texas League series at Security Bank Ballpark.

Midland’s Luis Barrera was 4 for 4 with two doubles and Mikey White homered, but Amarillo strung together hits in a three-run fourth and a two-run fifth to take the lead.

White homered with one out in the first and Brallan Perez added a sacrifice fly in the second after Kevin Merrell tripled to give the RockHounds a 2-0 lead.

Amarillo opened the fourth with four consecutive singles, the last by Brad Zunica to drive in a run, and Chris Baker and Buddy Reed followed with sacrifice flies for a 3-2 lead. Three consecutive two-out hits, including an RBI double by Luis Torrens and RBI single by Kyle Overstreet, in the sixth pushed the lead to 5-2.

Greg Deichmann singled in a run for Midland in the fifth, Torrens added a sacrifice fly for Amarillo in the seventh, and Barrera singled in a run in the ninth.

Amarillo starter Lake Bachar (1-2) went five innings for the win, giving up three runs on seven hits. Dauris Valdez got the final six outs for his first save.

Midland’s Kyle Fiedrichs (0-2) was charged with five runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings.

Overstreet finished 3 for 4 for Amarillo, while Ivan Castillo, Owen Miller, Torrens and Taylor Kohlwey each had two hits.

Merrell was 2 for 4 for Midland.

The rubber game of the series is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Security Bank Ballpark.
