TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: Amarillo downs Midland

AMARILLO Amarillo jumped out to a big early lead Tuesday and held on to beat Midland 9-4 in Texas League action at Hodgetown.

Amarillo got to Midland starter James Naile (3-4) for nine runs on 10 hits over 4.1 innings to build an eight-run lead.

Rodrigo Orozco, Ivan Castillo, Edward Olivares and Brad Zunica each had two hits and combined for six RBIs for Amarillo. Zunica homered to lead off the third inning and Amarillo added three runs in both the fourth and fifth to go up 9-1.

Midland’s Luis Barrera was 2 for 5 with a double, triple and an RBI. Jonah Heim was 3 for 5 and Kevin Merrell was 2 for 4 with a double.

Amarillo starter Kyle Lloyd (1-0) went five innings for the win, allowing a run on five hits. He struck out six.

The teams wrap up the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday before the RockHounds return home for four games against Corpus Christi starting Thursday.
