MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: RockHounds fall in extra innings to RoughRiders

MIDLAND The series opener between the Midland RockHounds and Frisco RoughRiders turned into a pitcher’s duel and it took extra innings to decide the winner.

In the end, Frisco had the deciding play as Jake Hoover’s sacrifice fly drove in the only run of the game as Midland fell 1-0 in 10 innings Tuesday at Momentum Bank Ballpark.

The start of the game was delayed by 48 minutes due a thunderstorm moving through the area.

Midland got solid efforts from both Chase Cohen and Jared Koenig combining to strike out eight, allowing just two hits.

The RockHounds were able to get the tying run to third base in the bottom of the 10th inning but Frisco’s Kyle Uvila struck out the final two Midland batters to end the game. Midland left 10 runners on base in the loss.

The series continues with the second game of the series beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
