MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: RockHounds can’t end losing streak in second game against Northwest Arkansas

MIDLAND The Midland RockHounds couldn’t stop their recent losing streak, falling 11-3 against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Wednesday at Momentum Bank Ballpark.

It was Midland’s fifth straight loss, stretching back to its previous series against the San Antonio Missions.

The Naturals got out to a quick start after an RBI single from Michael Massey drove in Maikel Garcia in the top of the first inning.

A solo homer from Seuly Matias to left field and a one-run double from Jake Means in the top of the second helped Northwest Arkansas extend its advantage to 3-0.

Shane Selman gave the RockHounds their first score in the bottom of the frame, driving in Logan Davidson with a double to center field.

The Naturals scored three more runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to go up 6-1.

A Chase Calabuig triple to right field scored William Simoneit in the bottom of the fifth to help the RockHounds cut the deficit again.

Northwest Arkansas ultimately outscored the RockHounds 5-1 before the end of the game to go up 2-0 in the series.

Selman, Simoneit and Calabuig tied for the team lead, pacing Midland with one RBI each.

Ryan Cusick and Nick Highberger combined to record six strikeouts.

Massey, Means and Nate Eaton led the Naturals with two RBIs.

The teams will continue their series at 7 p.m. Thursday at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
