COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Home runs doom UTPB in loss to Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK The UPTB softball team dropped a 5-2 decision at Lubbock Christian on Sunday as the Lady Chaparrals hit three home runs.

Alivia Villarreal and Morgan Dufour hit two-run homers as LCU (6-1) took a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

UTPB (1-4) closed the gap to 4-2 as Alyssa Lopez singled in a run in the second and Valerie Gonzalez scored on an error in the third. Lubbock Christian's Savannah Wysocki ended the scoring with a solo homer in the fifth.

Gonzalez finished 2 for 3 for UTPB.

Abrie Castillo (0-2) went the distance in the circle for UTPB, allowing five runs on five hits. She struck out four and walked one.

Lubbock Christian’s Amber Carlton (2-0) worked five innings for the win, giving up one earned run on three hits. She struck out one and walked one. Jordan Wehr pitched two perfect innings for her first save.

The Falcons were scheduled to play Colorado-Colorado Springs late Sunday evening.
