ABILENE The Odessa College men’s golf team trails McLennan Community College by seven strokes after Monday’s first two rounds of the NJCAA District 2 Championships at Diamondback Golf Club, but remains in good position to qualify for the national tournament.

The scores from last week’s NJCAA Southwest Championship will be combined with the scores from this week’s tournament, which concludes today, to determine berths to the NJCAA National Championship on May 12-15 in Newton, Kan. The top five teams in the 10-team field advance, and the Wranglers lead that race by 25 strokes after winning the Southwest Championship in Pottsboro.

Vetle Maroy led Odessa College on Monday with rounds of 68 and 65 on the par-71 course, and he leads the District 2 tournament by one stroke over McLennan’s Blake Allen Stock. Conner Bjugstad is tied for fourth place for the Wranglers after shooting 71 and 69.
