LUBBOCK The Odessa High and Permian girls and Permian boys teams will be among the field Monday for the Region I cross country championships at Mae Simmons Park.

The meet gets under way at 9 a.m. with the Class 6A girls race, followed by the 6A boys race at 9:30 a.m. The rest of the races will start every half hour with Class 1A girls running at 10 a.m. Class 2A starts at 11 a.m. with Class 3A at noon and Class 4A at 1 p.m.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals in each race qualify for the UIL state meet, scheduled for Nov. 3 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

The Lady Bronchos qualified by winning the District 2-6A team championship on Oct. 11 with Nathalia Escontrias winning the individual title. Odalis Lujan, Mariana Murrillo and Kayla Mendoza also posted top-10 finishes. The Lady Panthers, led by individual qualifier Kaitlyn Hernandez, finished third as a team to advance.

The Permian boys finished second at district with Josh Garcia winning the individual title and Oscar Sotelo, Adrian Davis and Nolberto Aguirre also in the top 10. Odessa High’s Adrian Lujan qualified as an individual by finishing fourth.
